Tucson Internation Airport has been the main gateway for visitors and locals for over 90 years. We were approached by the Tucson Airport Authority to help with some masterplanning of an existing cargo hangar facility. Next, we helped provide a new office and home base for the local TAA operations, by converting an unused office building. Improvements included many specific FAA and Homeland Security requirements, ballistic rated entry, secure networking, soundproofing of walls and ceilings, and modernizing the offices and restrooms. Another recent project was assisting in the remodeling of the military lounge, where current service men and women can relax away from the business of the terminal. The new lounge includes theater seating for movie watching, snack bar, work station and lounge furnishings. More recent projects include a new badging office, and remodeling the existing International Arrival Gate. This project required working with Department of Homeland Society and Customs and Border Patrol to ensure the existing space complied with current secret requirements. The remodel also focused on how the design and finishes could convey a welcoming atmosphere to new international arrivals. Unifying all of these projects is the cohesiveness of finishes, while creating unique environments that complement the uses specific to that location.
